History

Since Sovereign of the Seas entered service in 1987, all subsequent Royal Caribbean ships have names ending with the phrase "of the Seas".
Vision class
The Vision class consists of three pairs of sis ships. Legend and Splendour, congenital at Chantiers de l'Atlantique, Saint-Nazaire, France accept a gross tonnage of approximately seventy,000. Grandeur and Enchantment were built at Kvaerner Masa-Yards, Helsinki, Finland and had an original tonnage of approximately 73,000 GT. Voyager form
The Voyager-class ships were the largest course of cruise ships in the world when constructed and were the first ships to have an ice rink at sea and the outset to have Purple Caribbean's "Royal Promenade" mall concept, a master thoroughfare extending most of the length of the send, flanked by bars, cafes, and shopping venues. Radiance class
All Radiance-class ships accept a gross tonnage of 90,090 and environmentally friendlier gas turbine engines. Freedom class
The Freedom-class ships are lengthened versions of the second-generation Voyager-form ship, and contain a 400-human foot (120 m) Regal Promenade mall running much of the length of the send, an ice skating rink, basketball game courtroom, several pools, a mini-golf form, and a rock wall. Oasis class
The Oasis-form ships are the largest passenger ships always congenital, having surpassed the Freedom-form ships. Quantum class

Private resorts
Royal Caribbean area operates two privately owned resorts that are used equally stops on some Caribbean and Commonwealth of the bahamas itineraries. Incidents and controversies

On 9 December 2019, a volcanic eruption occurred killing 21 people from Ovation of the Seas. It occurred on New Zealand's White Isle (Whakaari) while Ovation was docked in the nearby Port of Tauranga. Despite an increment in seismic activeness in preceding weeks 47 people, including 38 passengers and crew from the ship, were on the island when information technology erupted.[128] [129] [130] Equally of December 10, 2019[update], 44 of the 47 were injured, missing, or killed.[131] A Royal Caribbean area spokesperson said the line was "devastated past today's events",[132] and the ship remained in port until 10 Dec to assist with recovery efforts.[133] In April 2020, legal action was commenced in Commonwealth of australia on behalf of relatives and Ovation passengers against Royal Caribbean area.[134]
Expiry of Chloe Rae Margaret Wiegand
On vii July 2019, eighteen-month-old Chloe Rae Margaret Wiegand was dropped to her expiry from an open window by her grandfather Salvatore Anello on Freedom of the Seas while docked in San Juan, Puerto Rico.[135] He was later arrested on counts of homicide by authorities in Puerto Rico.[136] The family attempted to file a civil suit against Regal Caribbean claiming that Anello did not know the window was open up. Royal Caribbean later on released several videos from surveillance cameras showing the incident. Equally of 25 February 2020, Anello took a plea deal with authorities,[137] however the civil lawsuit was however approved by a judge.[138]
COVID-xix pandemic
During the COVID-nineteen pandemic, the Miami Herald reported that, afterward cruises were cancelled worldwide and they had disembarked all passengers, Royal Caribbean Cruises had refused to repatriate many of their crew members due to the associated costs, with many crew members turning to desperate measures, such every bit hunger strikes, every bit a result.[139] [140]
As part of the Cruise Line International Clan (CLIA), Royal Caribbean has volunteered to pause operations through 31 October 2020. Previously, the pause was to end on 15 September 2020.[141]

On 16 June 2021, Royal Caribbean International announced that it was delaying the inaugural sailing of their newest cruise liner, Odyssey of the Seas after eight coiffure members tested positive for SARS-CoV-2–COVID-xix. 6 of the crew members were without showing signs of symptoms while the other ii were experiencing mild symptoms of the illness. The delay was extended until 31 July 2021.[144]
